I've tried pretty much everything - patches, installers and everything else. Nothing has solved the problem, CCP haven't provided any form of a solution and I'm seriously ticked off.
As far as I'm concerned, I have no way of playing EVE Online anymore. It was bad enough having to download the game 4 times to get it to install on my new PC.

I don't run antivirus as a rule - if I get anything nasty I'll just reinstall XP. An ISP problem is possible, mind, but I've tried this on a different ISP and it also failed...

Thanks for the help people. 
I got the file off my college's internet connection, wrote it to a DVD-RW and checked the install - it extracts flawlessly from the DVD (on the college system). Therefore, when I take it home tonight and extract, if I get a CRC error then it will be my computer as opposed to the installer, saving me the heartache of having to redownload.
Of course, having a copy of the installer on a DVD-RW is also very handy, especially when you have another DVD so you can take EVE with you wherever you go...

It's a euphamism, using the context that downloading takes time. 10GB will have taken an amount of time to do. It's algebra.

If you have that much trouble then you must look for the problem within your PC, be it a memory problem, virus crap or whatever.
ESPECIALLY if it's a new PC, memory problems happen a lot and can only be found due to annoying crap like this; replace the memory (if the manufacturer tell you he tested it and it came out good tell him to shove that memory where the sun doesn't shine and give you some new ones).
I suppose it might be a memory problem, but I somehow doubt it - this is good quality DDR 400!
I've owned it for 2 years longer than my current PC, which was ú50 off a friend who was getting a new one, and it had a Pentium D 940 - a nice step up from an Athlon XP 2700+! I'll run memtest this evening though, you can never be too careful.  I'll also run an error check and a few defrags over the next few days.

I'm certain it's not a virus - I've had checksum errors before from the EVE client, both on an older computer and on this computer when I was using Ubuntu on it last week.
Also, it's metaphorical, people!
